Versailles
-Built by Louis XIV
-He thought of himself as the sun king because he gave light and warmth to everywhere he
touched
-Louis XIV reigned as king for 72 years
-Hall of mirrors is nearly 250 feet long
-The hall of mirrors has 17 large arched mirrors
-Mirrors were a great luxury at the time
-In 1919 Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles in the hall of mirrors ending World War 1
-October 6, 1789 a mob of revolutionaries took over the palace.
-Versailles is a very symmetrical well plan city used as a model for the building of Washington
D.C.
Champ-Elysees
-It is a grand boulevard in Paris
-It has the Busiest traffic in Paris
-Large sidewalks, stylish shops, grand cafés and glimmering show rooms
-It begins at the Arc de Triomphe
-2 kilometers long (1.24 miles)
-There are underground walkways to get to the Arc de Triomphe because the traffic is so busy
-Louis XIV lived at the louver
-McDonalds at first could only have white arches painted on the windows and it had to have café quality chairs and flower boxes
-Paris has the highest population density of any city in Europe

-Started building in 1890 to honor Napoleon’s soldiers
-Napoleon died before it was finished in 1840.
-It is dedicated to the victories of all French armies
