My Brochure Handout

In my second People to People meeting, we were assigned a location that we will visit and then we had to create the power point. We were assigned Versailles and the Champs-Elysees. Me and my partner made a great power point and I made these cool handouts about the places we visited.

Here's some facts:

Versailles
-Built by Louis XIV
-He thought of himself as the sun king because he gave light and warmth to everywhere he
touched
-Louis XIV reigned as king for 72 years
-Hall of mirrors is nearly 250 feet long
-The hall of mirrors has 17 large arched mirrors
-Mirrors were a great luxury at the time
-In 1919 Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles in the hall of mirrors ending World War 1
-October 6, 1789 a mob of revolutionaries took over the palace.
-Versailles is a very symmetrical well plan city used as a model for the building of Washington
D.C.

Champ-Elysees
-It is a grand boulevard in Paris
-It has the Busiest traffic in Paris
-Large sidewalks, stylish shops, grand cafés and glimmering show rooms
-It begins at the Arc de Triomphe
-2 kilometers long (1.24 miles)
-There are underground walkways to get to the Arc de Triomphe because the traffic is so busy
-Louis XIV lived at the louver
-McDonalds at first could only have white arches painted on the windows and it had to have café quality chairs and flower boxes
-Paris has the highest population density of any city in Europe
-20 times greater than New York City (11 million people live in Paris)

Arc de Triomphe
-165 foot tall arch
-Started building in 1890 to honor Napoleon’s soldiers
-Napoleon died before it was finished in 1840.
-It is dedicated to the victories of all French armies
-National parades start and end here with one minute of silence
-284 steps

Sponsor Letter

Hello Friends and Family,

My name is Charlie Maurer, and I am a 9th-grade student at Lake Orion High School in Lake Orion, Michigan. I was recently interviewed and accepted to participate as a member of the People to People Student Ambassador Program to Europe this summer. The objective of the program is to promote international understanding while building leadership skills among America’s youth. The 17-day experience includes seeing old architecture, interaction with other students my age, educational activities, and learning about Europe’s history.

I am currently seeking financial sponsors to help me with tuition, and hope I can count on your support. In case you haven’t heard of People to People, please allow me to share some history with you. President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded the organization in 1956. He believed that if people from different cultures could come together in peace and friendship, so eventually would countries. Since its founding, People to People has launched many international programs, including Sister Cities and Project HOPE.

People to People Student Ambassadors are carefully interviewed and evaluated before their acceptance and I am honored to have been selected. Personally, I am looking forward to broadening my perspectives of the world and gaining a better understanding of Ancient European history. Upon my return, I plan to share my experience with schools and civic clubs in our community. As an Ambassador, I can also earn high school and college credit because of the many educational elements in my program.

The program tuition is $7,139, which includes all transportation, accommodations, meals and educational activities. I am asking over 100 contributors to each donate to help me reach my goal. Is it possible for you to assist me by making a contribution? Any amount of contribution would be appreciated. I will plan to give a speech and share my journal, photographs, and experiences with contributors upon my return.

My program tuition is due April 15, 2009. Please feel free to contact me at 248-693-6797 if you need more information. Your generous contribution would enable me to share in this wonderful opportunity. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.

Sincerely yours,

Charlie Maurer

Student Ambassador
